Wake Up to US customers

Australian travel brands are sitting on an “untapped opportunity” with United States travellers, founder of package deals website Wake Up Here Paul Mercuri has claimed, ADAM BISHOP writes.

Speaking with sister publication, Travel Daily this week, Mercuri (pictured) said his business has 241,000 engaged US subscribers and market-leading open rates, offering Aussie businesses a cost-effective way to put their product in front of Americans who are actively considering travel Down Under.

“[We can assist] at a fraction of the cost of traditional US media.

“We’re not talking about broad brand awareness – this is a targeted audience of travel deal seekers, for tour operators, hotels and experience providers, that’s a highly qualified audience at a very accessible price point.”

Mercuri added that the recently signed Australia-EU free trade agreement and the growing profile of Australian tourism in the US market makes this the “right moment” for Australian brands to invest in building direct relationships with Americans.

Wake Up Here offers dedicated marketing email sends for a single brand’s audience to its full US list at US$3,000 per send.

Mercuri has extensive experience in the online travel deals space, having held the roles of head of travel for Kogan.com and sales manager for Travelzoo.

He also co-founded the now-defunct Melbourne-based Traveldream business, however he departed the company 12 months before it controversially left creditors out of pocket last year to found Wake Up Here.
