W Sydney’s fresh take on luxury

Marriott Bonvoy has opened its third W property Down Under, offering a new harbour hub for Sydneysiders. Janie Medbury writes.

AN EXCITING new property has arrived in the Emerald City, with Marriott Bonvoy announcing the highly anticipated opening of W Sydney – which Vice President for Australia, New Zealand & Pacific, Sean Hunt, says “signals a new era for the brand”.

“Its dynamic design, ‘Whatever/Whenever’ service ethos, imaginative dining and bars and creative guest programming will bring an exciting new energy to this vibrant Darling Harbour precinct,” he commented.

Located within The Ribbon, a dramatic curved structure rising over Darling Harbour, the hotel offers 588 marine-inspired rooms, including 162 exceptional suites, featuring a nautical white and navy-blue palette, while bathrooms are characterised in deep oceanic blue and walk-in wardrobes feature a red and pink Waratah flower graphic.

W Sydney is home to four new dining and bar venues, including a late-night dessert bar, an Asian restaurant, and a two-level bar with panoramic harbour views and a menu featuring vintage Champagnes by the glass.

Guests can refresh and recharge at the AWAY Spa, which comprises of five treatment rooms, circular pods for beauty treatments, a bar, a gym, and a 30-metre open-air infinity pool.

The hotel is also ideal for business travellers, thanks to its 1,300 square metres of event space across eight versatile meeting rooms, as well as its close proximity to Sydney’s International Convention Centre.

The property is a “complete departure from the city’s traditional hotels”, according to General Manager Craig Seaward, who believes “this unique W spirit is something you feel at every touchpoint, from our eclectic venues to the cool blue rooms and high energy programming”.
