Virgin Voyages gains Velocity with cashless cruise offer

VIRGIN Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer loyalty program has launched its first-ever cruise-for-points offer with Virgin Voyages, making a luxe kid-free cruise holiday a possibility for more Australians.

The premium, adults-only cruise brand is due arrive in Australian waters for the first time this December, offering three- to six-night cruises from Melbourne and Sydney.

The limited-time offer will be available for a set redemption price of 79,999 Points, with no cash required to make a booking, and can be used on eligible sailings between 16 December 2023 and 05 March 2024.

Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO Nick Rohrlach shared he is “excited to welcome Virgin Voyages into Velocity family” and offer “a fantastic opportunity for Velocity members to use their Points to pay for a luxe cruise”.

“Value for money is more important than ever and we expect the cashless cruises will be redeemed fast. We are committed to opening new ways our members can use their Points and this is a great example of that,” he added. The two Virgin travel brands are expected to launch a long-term earn and redemption partnership next year.

Customers can accrue Velocity points by shopping for everyday necessities, such as topping up the car, taking out a new health insurance policy, or using the bonus Points from a new credit card.

The cashless cruise offer can be redeemed here now via the Velocity Rewards Store until midnight 05 October 2023 or until sold out. To see a full list of Virgin Voyages’ Australia-Pacific sailings, click here.

MEANWHILE, Virgin Australia has extended the expiry of its COVID credits for the third time, giving customers nearly two more years to use their credits. The carrier said 90% of the credits it issued during the pandemic (which totalled more than $1.2 billion) have been redeemed, with around $120 million remaining.

The extension means that travellers can now use their COVID credits issued on or before 31 July 2022 to book and fly on any Virgin Australia flight by 30 June 2025, including long-haul international codeshare flights in both Business and Economy.
