SYD’s record OS arrivals

Sydney Airport has registered record international growth for the first quarter, with 4.57 million int’l passengers coming through its terminals during the period, MYLES STEDMAN reports.

It represents 5.8% growth year-on-year, with the airport’s international performance driving a 3.6% increase in total passenger numbers YOY to 10.78 million.

“This quarter’s record international growth is a great outcome, particularly given the disruption in the Middle East, where many airlines have faced significant operational impacts,” CEO Scott Charlton said.

China and New Zealand were Sydney’s largest international markets during the quarter, with passenger volumes increasing by 14% and 13.5% respectively year-on-year.

Asia‑Pacific continued to account for much of the overall increase in international traffic, with travel to and from Hong Kong in particular recording strong growth.

The destination was up 21.4% year-on-year, while passenger volumes on services to and from Kuala Lumpur increased by 32.3%, while services to and from Guangzhou grew 38.5%.

Transit through Asia has also increased significantly as the Iran War continues to impact Middle Eastern airlines.

Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Seoul were all up, by 21.4%, 7.6%, and 5.7% respectively.

Domestic passenger numbers rose 2.1% year-on-year, with 6.2m passengers travelling through the T2 and T3 terminals.
