Sabre, iCoupon offer new solution for flight delays

SABRE Corporation is enabling its airline customers to minimise the pain of flight disruptions, thanks to a new partnership with digital vouchering platform iCoupon.

Using iCoupon technology, airlines can convert passenger boarding passes into vouchers that can be instantly redeemed at airport restaurants and retailers, in the event of significant delays or disruption.

“Even with the very best network plan and the most optimal scheduling, unexpected delays and disruptions happen for all sorts of reasons,” Sabre Travel Solutions Senior Vice President of Product Management, Corrie DeCamp, explained.

“And when a disruption does happen, passengers expect and demand instant solutions.  Providing immediate compensation through unique barcodes on boarding passes that passengers already have streamlines processes for airlines while minimising what can be a stressful situation for both passengers and airline staff.”

The new solution from iCoupon and Sabre eliminates the need for a physical voucher, offering an environmentally friendly solution by allowing airlines and ground handlers to remotely and instantly issue digital vouchers directly to a passenger’s boarding pass in the event of lengthy delays and disruptions.

Passengers will then be able to redeem their voucher at any iCoupon-integrated restaurant or retailer with their mobile or printed boarding pass effective immediately, with airlines also able to use the new solution for staff and crew meal entitlements.

iCoupon CEO Richard Bye said the platform’s partnership with the travel tech provider will support its international growth “by enabling us to offer our innovative solution to more airlines across the world, while allowing airlines to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, and improve passenger satisfaction during times of disruption”.
