QantasLink names new leader

The Flying Kangaroo has appointed a new chief for its regional airline brand, Janie Medbury writes.

RACHEL Yangoyan has been appointed by Qantas as the new chief executive of its regional and charter arm, QantasLink, after current CEO John Gissing announced his intention to retire in early November.

Yangoyan has been with Qantas Group for 20 years in a number of senior positions across customer experience, operations, airports, loyalty and strategy. She most recently led the ‘entry into service’ program for the Flying Kangaroo’s major fleet renewal.

“Rachel has a deep understanding of what it takes to run an airline and brings a lot of capability to this role,” Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said. “This appointment completes the new leadership team structure we announced earlier in the year, which is focused on dealing with the challenges and opportunities now in front of us.”

The incoming Yangoyan enthused, “Qantas started in outback Australia and it’s an honour to be taking on the role of QantasLink CEO and working with our people on improving how we serve regional communities as well as the resources sector”.

Gissing, who headed up QantasLink since April 2012, will remain onboard in an advisory role for 12 months to assist with the leadership transition.
