THE non-stop service will operate three times a week via an A330 aircraft, adding an extra 40,000 seats per year to the popular Hawaiian market.
Now on sale, the route complements existing Sydney to Honolulu services operated by Qantas and Jetstar, which together fly eight times weekly.
Coinciding with the launch of the new Qantas service, Jetstar will cease its current twice weekly Dreamliner 787 Melbourne to Honolulu flights from 30 April 2025, with the aircraft to be depolyed on another long-haul route.
“We are thrilled to continue to enhance our network in America with the launch of a new route from Melbourne to Honolulu, bringing a new, tropical destination to our Melbourne customers,” said Qantas CEO International, Cam Wallace.
“Our new service ensures continued connectivity for Melbournians to Hawaii, while enabling Jetstar to redeploy its 787 aircraft to other destinations and long-haul routes.”
Celebrating the news, Qantas has released 50,000 cheaper airfares across its American network, with discounts available on 30 routes.
Prices start from $1,049 for a return economy flight from Melbourne to Honolulu, as well as Sydney and Brisbane to Los Angeles ($1,199), and Sydney to Vancouver ($1,599).
The seven-day ‘North and South America Red Tail Sale’ ends 11.59pm Monday 09 September, unless sold out prior, and applies to a range of travel periods between October 2024 and June 2025.
