Hawaiian Airlines and Qantas will relaunch a reciprocal codeshare partnership, which this time will cover routes within Australia and Hawaii, as well as between the American state and the US mainland.
From 07 May, the Flying Kangaroo and the Alaska Airlines-owned carrier plan to share codes on a range of routes out of Sydney and Honolulu, according to an update on Aeroroutes.
Under this agreement, Hawaiian Airlines will place its HA code on numerous Qantas-operated domestic flights within Australia, as well as on flights between Australia and New Zealand, and between Australia/New Zealand and the US Conversely, Qantas will place its QF code on Hawaiian-operated flights within the US.
Outbound Qantas flights will share codes from the Hawaiian capital to onward destinations such as Kahului and Kona, and US cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego.
HA will also be able to share Qantas-operated flights inbound from Sydney to most capitals.
While Hawaiian Airlines previously had interline agreements with over 50 domestic and international airlines, including Qantas, the new codeshare arrangement represents a deeper level of collaboration between the two carriers.
In Feb 2025, Qantas and Hawaiian Airlines applied to the US Department of Transportation for blanket authorisation to engage in reciprocal codesharing. This application was approved in Mar, allowing both airlines to place their respective codes on each other’s flights.
It’s important to note that this codeshare agreement does not extend to flights between Australia and Honolulu, as both airlines operate direct services on this route and remain competitors in that market.
The move follows HA and VA opting to end a reciprocal loyalty deal from 30 Jun. Following Hawaiian’s acquisition by Alaska Airlines last year – an airline Qantas already works closely with through the Oneworld airline alliance, this latest move may be seen as another step towards Hawaiian Airlines potentially becoming a future member.
This is also not the first time Qantas and Hawaiian Airlines have worked together, with the latest partnership marking a renewed connection from one dating back a decade earlier.
The specific end date of the previous interline agreement between Qantas and Hawaiian Airlines is not publicly documented. However, evidence suggests that this agreement was in effect as of 2015, allowing Hawaiian Airlines to sell Qantas-operated services within Australia and across the Tasman Sea.
This interline partnership facilitated passengers booking connecting flights across both carriers on a single ticket, enabling through-checked baggage and streamlined itineraries.
