Ponant presents Paspaley Pearl

The luxury cruise line has partnered with Paspaley to announce the launch of a new expedition yacht, Janie Medbury writes.

PONANT has introduced its newest vessel, Paspaley Pearl, in collaboration with renowned luxury pearling company, Paspaley. The boutique expedition yacht will sail the Kimberley from June 2024, where she will offer year-round voyages through the region, as well as Indonesia (Raja Ampat & Spice Islands) and Papua New Guinea.

With a capacity for 30 guests, the motor yacht features private balconies and boasts an advanced level of environmental and technical systems. She will offer a diverse range of seven-, 10-, 12- and 14-night itineraries for travellers “seeking extraordinary experiences in one of the world’s most unique destinations”.

Paspaley acquired the vessel at auction for just $5.5 million – around a tenth of the estimated cost of the ship, which was originally delivered in 2021 for the now-defunct Island Escape Cruises.

“The launch of Paspaley Pearl by Ponant marks a milestone in the development of boutique expedition travel and we are proud to offer a new and different standard of excellence in this pristine region,” Ponant Chairwoman Asia Pacific Sarina Bratton said.

“With our long-term relationship and vast combined experience, this venture is a testament to our joint commitment to sharing unique and exclusive experiences to discerning travellers.”

Paspaley Executive Chairman Nicholas Paspaley also enthused, “sharing the routes that my crew and I pioneered in the 1970s onboard our pearl luggers will provide wonderful opportunities for guests. An in-depth immersion into and understanding of the pearling industry will enrich many.”

More details will be revealed and reservations will open in November.
