No more lounging around

Qantas is significantly tightening lounge access rules for those flying with its low-cost carrier, MYLES STEDMAN writes.

From July, Platinum, gold and Qantas Club members travelling on an international Jetstar flight will no longer be able to access a Qantas lounge, nor will complimentary lounge invitation-holders.

Those booked on a Qantas codeshare flight operated by Jetstar will retain lounge access, as will guests travelling on a domestic flight, or a business pax fare for the budget carrier.

Complimentary lounge invitations will also now only be transferable to someone travelling on the same flight.

There are no changes to lounge invitations or access for Platinum One members, who can still enter a Qantas lounge while flying with Jetstar internationally.

Explaining the rationale for the change, Qantas said it was driven by “feedback from our customers & our commitment to delivering a premium lounge experience”.

A wide variety of international routes – mostly to Asia – are flown by JQ that its full-service sister airline does not service, such as Sydney and Melbourne to Phuket and Brisbane to Bangkok.

Other services include Adelaide, Cairns, and Townsville to Bali; Sydney to Rarotonga, and a range of Aussie ports to Tokyo, Osaka, Saigon, Manila, and Cebu.
