New business events body unveils board

THE Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) has announced its board of directors and revealed its new logo ahead of its official launch on 03 July.

Matt Pearce, CEO and co-founder of Talk2 Media & Events, has been named as Deputy Chair for the newly formed peak body for the business events industry.

“With the drive of an all-encompassing entity like the Australian Business Events Association to highlight and promote the sector, we have the opportunity to represent our expertise, talent and technical innovations to a national and international audience,” Pearce enthused.

Joining him to make up the rest of the board are Janet Hamilton, General Manager of the Cairns Convention Centre; Nigel Keen, General Manager of the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC); Michael Matthews, CEO of Canberra Convention Bureau; Julia Swanson, CEO of the Melbourne Convention Bureau and Nicole Walker, Managing Director of Arinex.

“We have assembled an exceptional calibre of committed directors who are renowned leaders in their own right,” ABEA Chair Peter King said. “They live, breathe and lead business events and bring a new energy to the table and understand what the potential is for our sector.”

A formal recruitment process is currently underway to appoint three additional directors, which will bring the number of board positions up from seven to 11.

ABEA also unveiled its new logo (pictured), which features bold colours in a contemporary design to reflect “the importance of human connection, the diverse areas of the industry working together, and the perpetual forward momentum desired for the industry and its members”.
