Speaking at the Maldivian themed launch event in Sydney last night, Luxury Escapes’ (LE) general manager for tours and wholesales Glen Kilpatrick (pictured) explained that the company is referring to the Maldives as “the new Med”, saying, “it’s not just honeymooners, it’s families, it’s solos, it’s adventure travel”.
A few of the adrenaline-centric offerings revealed included diving, kayaking, jet skiing and water jetpacking – several of which come included in LE’s holiday packages.
Discussing the direct flights with Maldivian, LE CEO and co-founder Adam Schwab said the services are designed to remove the hassle of long flight times and multiple layovers for both agents and travellers.
“Qatar is 22 hours, Emirates is 20, Singapore Airlines is 16, so there is no great way to get there,” he explained.
“We were able to create this charter perfectly for our customers, and we don’t have to worry about other routes and planes – we leave Melbourne at 11.30pm, fly overnight, land in Male at 5am.”
Schwab also confirmed that LE is currently working towards direct flights from Sydney, as it accounts for 30% of bookings.
