THE inaugural GX community summit will be held in Peru this year from 22-28 September. Presented by G Adventures in support of its non-profit partner, Planeterra, the event will also include an agent incentive.
The global travel convention will give agents, suppliers, media and travellers the opportunity to experience how community tourism can positively impact a destination.
Each group will have its own dedicated itinerary, and the event will conclude with the first World Community Tourism Summit, coinciding with World Tourism Day, on 27 September. The day will feature a line-up of inspiring speakers and entertainment, to be announced shortly.
The multi-day summit will celebrate Planeterra’s 20th anniversary along with G Adventures’ belated 30th anniversary, which was put on hold for three years due to the pandemic.
The event will be invitation-only, but 65 agents will have a chance to attend thanks to the 2023 Change Makers incentive, which will be hosted as part of GX.
Bruce Poon Tip (pictured), founder of G Adventures, has touted the summit as “an event unlike any the travel industry has seen before”, with the potential to help the local community through its concurrent fundraising efforts for Planeterra’s 20th anniversary.
“We’ve thrown lots of great parties and events in our 33 years of operation, but this will be the biggest yet. With Planeterra’s 20th and our 30th anniversaries, it needs to be something special and never-done before,” he explained.
“Most importantly, I’m looking forward to recognising 20 years of Planeterra and the great work that has been done, and to help raise money to continue the great work they are doing to change lives in the communities we visit.”
“There’s no better way to show our travel community first-hand how tourism has the power to drive positive change than through experience,” he concluded.
Change Makers is live now and runs until 30 June – agents can log into Sherpa here for more information, while more details on GX will be revealed in the coming weeks.
