Free wi-fi for Emirates Skywards passengers

EMIRATES is now offering “some form” of free wi-fi connectivity on flights for all passengers who join Emirates Skywards. Whether Blue, Silver, Gold, or Platinium tier, Skywards members across any class can use free app messaging, while First class customers who hold a Skywards membership will enjoy unlimited free internet.

The change will see an extra 30,000 Economy class passengers connecting to complimentary wi-fi each week, and comes after a significant US$300 million investment by the carrier into its onboard internet connectivity.

“Emirates has persistently worked with our service providers to optimise and improve the connectivity experience,” the airline’s Senior Vice President Retail, IFE & Connectivity, Patrick Brannelley, said.

“In March we delivered about 55% more data per customer session compared to early 2022 despite the number of sessions increasing by 68% in the same period,” he commented, adding that Emirates plans to continue investing in upgrades and enhancements.

The carrier also announced that it will offer new high-speed, inflight broadband onboard 50 new Airbus A350 aircraft, which are scheduled to enter service in 2024. The Airbus A350s will be the first Emirates aircraft to use Inmarsat’s Global Xpress satellite network, which promises uninterrupted global connectivity.
