Etihad Airways has achieved a significant milestone, announcing its highest-ever full-year profit of AED 1.7 billion (A$723 million) for 2024.
The result marked the airline’s third consecutive year of positive financial performance, which it largely attributed to strong passenger demand and operational efficiencies across its expanded network.
Passenger numbers surged by 32%, with Etihad carrying 18.5 million travellers in 2024, up from 14 million in 2023. This growth was bolstered by a 28% increase in Available Seat Kilometres (ASK), as well as a strong passenger load factor of 87%, up from 86% in the previous year. Total revenue for 2024 was up 25% increase from the previous year, driven by both its passenger and cargo operations.
In line with its growth, Etihad expanded its network to include 80 destinations by the end of 2024, and launched 20 new routes, including popular cities like Boston, Jaipur, Bali, and Nairobi. The airline also increased its frequency on 25 existing routes over the past two years, expanding its reach and providing more options for travellers. The addition of 12 new aircraft, including six A320neos and the return of its fifth Airbus A380, helped support these operational increases.
The airline also focused on enhancing customer experience, with more than 200 improvements to its website and mobile app. Etihad’s loyalty programme, Etihad Guest, surpassed 10 million members, while the airline introduced a new premium call centre for faster, more personalised service.
Etihad’s focus on sustainability continued in 2024, with its new fleet types and operational improvements supporting its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals. The airline’s fleet now includes some of the youngest and most fuel-efficient aircraft in the region.
Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves emphasised the airline’s commitment to delivering extraordinary customer experiences while contributing to the long-term prosperity of the UAE. The airline also announced the conclusion of its long-standing codeshare agreement with Virgin Australia, effective 1st June 2025, signalling further network changes in Australia.
