Costello says Helloworld

Former Federal Treasurer Peter Costello will join the board of Helloworld on 01 June, the business announced to the market this week, writes DAMIAN FRANCIS.

Costello has held significant positions in the business world since his departure from politics, most notably as chairman of Nine Entertainment Co, a role he held from 2016 to 2024.

From 2009 to 2014, he was also chairman of the Independent Advisory Board to the World Bank in Washington, USA.

Other resume highlights for Costello include serving as chair of the Future Fund from 2014 to 2024, Australia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund which he created while serving as Treasurer.

In a statement to the ASX, Helloworld said that CEO Andrew Burnes was “delighted to welcome Costello to the board”, and looked forward to working with him in order to grow and develop the business further over the coming years.

The announcement comes after Helloworld’s recent attempts to acquire 100% of the shares that it did not already own in Webjet, directly competing with BGH Capital for the business.

In Feb it was announced by Webjet that discussions between all parties had halted.

Costello was also made a Companion of the Order of Australia in Jan 2011.
