China restarts visas

CHINA will begin to reissue all categories of visas to international visitors from today, officially scrapping the last of its cross-border control measures.

Regions in China that didn’t require visas before the pandemic have now reverted to visa-free entry, the foreign ministry announced. This includes the southern tourist island of Hainan and cruise ships passing through Shanghai port.

Additionally, foreigners holding visas issued prior to 28 March 2020 that were still within their validity dates would also be permitted entry to China.

Prior to COVID-19, China was the fifth-most popular overseas destination for Australians, with over 600,000 Aussies heading to the country in 2019.
