Carnival Australia drops HAL chief Tony Archbold

TONY Archbold, who has led the sales efforts for Carnival Corporation’s Holland America Line and Seabourn Cruise Line in the Australian and New Zealand markets ever since the brands established a standalone Sydney office in 2011, has left the company after his role was made redundant.

The highly respected Archbold had built a strong reputation across the trade since being appointed to the Holland America Line role in July 2011 after the cessation of the brand’s long-running representation by Travel The World. Seabourn was added to his remit shortly thereafter, with both brands operating with a dedicated team of business development managers and a specialised call centre in Sydney.

“As cruising emerges confidently from the two-year pause in operations, we can confirm a change in brand leadership arrangements to best serve the market in which Tony Archbold, Holland America Line and Seabourn Senior Director for Marketing and Sales in Australia and New Zealand has been farewelled at the beginning of the month,” said a spokesperson for Carnival Australia.

His team will now report to Ryan Taibel, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for P&O Cruises and Cunard, the company confirmed, thanking Archbold for his “significant contribution in successfully launching and embedding the two distinctive cruise lines under the Carnival Australia house of brands in this region”.

Archbold told travelBulletin he plans to take a short break before considering new roles within the industry.
