The review will be led by Service and Creative Skills Australia (SaCSA), with the aim of bringing the Certificate III in Travel, Certificate III in Tourism and Certificate III in Guiding in line with current industry practice.
ATIA said the announcement is a direct response to its sustained advocacy based on the concerns of its members that the current qualifications were not keeping pace with how modern travel businesses operate today.
The review is expected to help raise the standard so new entrants are job-ready for real-world operations.
ATIA will be directly involved in consultation processes throughout the review, working closely with SaCSA to ensure member feedback shapes the final outcome.
“Members told us the Certificate III in Travel wasn’t keeping up with the modern travel workplace,” ATIA CEO Dean Long said.
“ATIA took that message to SaCSA, and we welcome that it is now being addressed through a national review.
“This is about lifting the standard so new entrants are genuinely job-ready, backed by a framework that is modern and built for the future of the travel industry,” he added.
The announcement also comes after Australian Travel Careers Council held the first of five Travel Skills Taskforce forums as part of its own review of the Certificate III in Travel.
