APT unveils new Douro ship

APT Travel Group has announced MS Estrela, a brand-new ship especially designed to sail Portugal’s Douro River. The bespoke vessel will embark on her maiden voyage in 2024, and will host guests for both APT and Travelmarvel brands, with distinct itineraries and inclusions offered for each brand.

“We are committed to providing the highest quality for our guests and the introduction of the new MS Estrela delivers in spades,” APT CEO David Cox commented on the ship’s announcement, which follows the recent launch of three Travelmarvel ships – Polaris, Capella and Vega.

“When she glides into Portugal next year, we will see a glorious ship designed with a nod to the landscapes of the Douro Valley and a contemporary Southern European ambience.

“Purpose designed with our guests from Australia, New Zealand and the UK in mind, we have included key features including a sun deck featuring an outdoor bar with couches, chairs and tables as well as a large swimming pool and a golf putting green,” he added.

The small build can cater to a maximum of 120 guests, and will offer Balcony suites with electric slide-down windows that open to a French balcony, while each stateroom and suite will feature an ensuite bathroom, personal climate control, flatscreen TVs, and complimentary wi-fi.

Guests onboard MS Estrela can also enjoy a range of Portuguese, Mediterranean and international cuisine at the ship’s main restaurant, opt for a light meal in the vessel’s lounge, or dine alfresco on the exterior deck of the main lounge.

Highlight itineraries for the newbuild’s maiden season include the 14-day APT Douro Delights sailing from Lisbon to Madrid and the eight-day Travelmarvel Douro Discovery, a roundtrip from Porto, with both sailings offered between June and October 2024.
