An historic Antarctic rendezvous

Viking Polaris and Viking Octantis are sister ships, but they had never met until today.

SET against the majestic backdrop of an Antarctic ice cliff, Viking Cruises’ expedition fleet met up for the first time ever off the coast of the frozen continent this week.

The momentous occasion was celebrated with a coordinated “plaque exchange” between the ship’s captains Håkan Gustavsson (Viking Octantis) and Margrith Ettlin (Viking Polaris), involving deployment of multiple Zodiacs and Special Operations Boats to capture the moment.

Daniel Hansson, Viking Polaris Staff Captain; Håkan Gustavsson, Viking Octantis Captain; and Wendy Gouws, Viking Octantis Hotel General Manager conduct the historic plaque exchange.

The catch-up took place in Yankee Harbour, with both vessels currently exploring Antarctica for the season.
