Qatar is fast emerging as a must do stopover destination on route to Europe and the UK. It truly has everything – from world class luxury hotels and restaurants to centuries-old traditions, a fascinating arts scene and a must for any stopover – amazing shopping!

After watching the Sunrise show breakfast team broadcasting live from Qatar last week courtesy of Qatar Tourism, we were inspired to design our ideal three-day itinerary for you!

It all starts as you land in Doha, all stopover hotels have a 24 hour check in,  so no matter what time you arrive you can access your room, rest, freshen up and get ready to go explore this middle east gem! The quality of the accommodation is superb, so leave a little time on your stopover to enjoy the hotel pool, spa and facilities, and with some hotels a private beach!

Day one:

What better way to orientate yourself than with a Discover Doha city tour. This four-hour experience covers all the city highlights including taking in the Corniche harbour precinct, the stylish Pearl area, Katara Cultural Village and the centuries old Souq Waqif.

Afterwards, head to the famous Boho Social Club – a foodies’ destination! Choose a table on the terrace and enjoy a long lunch taking in the spectacular views of The Pearl and across the Arabian Sea.

After lunch, head into the Katara Cultural Village and mix it with the locals.  It is Doha’s go to destination for art, culture, architecture and dining.  The village also houses one of the best shopping experiences at 21 High Street which includes Galleries Lafayette.  End the day by immersing yourself with locals and expats alike for dinner, where you can choose from the myriad of global food offerings around the village including food stalls, restaurants and cafes.

Day two:

The UNESCO heritage listed Inland Sea is an absolute must for any visitor to Qatar. Discover Qatar’s half day Dune and Inland Sea tour ensures you will get your dose of dune bashing adventure in a 4WD air-conditioned vehicle as well as visiting the incredible sight of The Inland sea.

The Souq Waqif really comes to life of an evening so we recommend wandering through the alleyways, where traders have met for hundreds of years. Make sure you include a visit to the falcon hospital whilst there! Close by is the Al Wadi hotel, where you can enjoy the sun setting over Doha harbour and city from their rooftop bar whilst sipping your favourite tipple.

Day three:

Unique to Qatar is the opportunity to visit some of the world’s best museums and galleries. The Museum of Islamic Art is one of these, offering one of the world’s best collection of ancient artefacts that will wow even the non-culture buff amongst us. Or the National Museum of Qatar, who’s architectural design is based on the desert rose, a photographer’s haven!

If you are a shopper, you can’t go past the enormous range of malls in Doha, offering everything from high street brands right through to high end! If you are a sports buff, you can visit one of the amazing stadiums that are gearing up to host the FIFA World Cup this November.

To end your stay in style, toast your amazing Qatar experience over a meal at one of the many world class restaurants Nobu, CUT, Morimoto – the list goes on.

With a luxury stay from as low as $19*, a Qatar stopover will turn your holiday from one  into two.
