WHILE the entire cruise industry has come under the sustainability microscope in recent years, expedition cruise lines are arguably held to a higher standard given the unspoilt nature of the isolated destinations they explore.
In light of this, Lindblad Expeditions has implemented a new cleaning system on board its ships called Premium Purity, which will aim to reduce the impact of the line’s cruises on the environment.
Surfaces of all vessels will be treated with ACT CleanCoat, a disruptive technology that Lindblad says will improve the health of its passengers and reduce wastage on its ships.
The line’s Vice President, Hotel Operations Bruce Tschampe said the pilot program had already delivered some amazing results.
“We reduced guest reported illness by 50%, eliminated over 1,000 plastic bottles of cleaning products, and dramatically reduced water usage by 1.1 million gallons per year,” he said.
