FINNAIR launched its first biofuel flights on 5 and 7 August as part of its Push for Change carbon decreasing initiative, with both flights taking off from San Francisco Airport to land in Helsinki, Finland.

The planes were flown with a biofuel mix of 12%, resulting in a reduction of total CO2 emissions for the two flights by approximately 32 tonnes.

Finnair partnered with SkyNRG and World Energy to produce the biofuel, made from used cooking oil in California, while Shell Aviation provided logistics and supply chain support.

Options to purchase biofuel for future flights and offset carbon emissions through certified projects can be found on the Push for Change site: https://www.finnair.com/au/gb/pushforchange
