MORE serious strides are being made by the aviation sector regarding the reduction of carbon emissions, with the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) recently pledging to reach zero carbon emissions by 2050.

A major pillar of the environmental strategy will involve sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), however AAPA Director-General Subhas Menon believes the Asia Pacific region still needs more resources and support to create SAF for carriers, with the region to account for roughly 40% of the total biofuel demand.

Members of the alliance include Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, All Nippon Airways and Malaysia Airlines.
