WHETHER you are stopped for one day or multiple, Los Angeles is idyllic as layover destinations come; with an airport situated right on the beach, and some of the most picturesque LA destinations right on its doorstep, there is every reason to venture outside of Los Angeles International while you are waiting for your connecting flight.

For those in town for just under 10 hours, Marina Del Rey is well within striking distance, as are Hermosa, Manhattan and Redondo Beaches. One of the most iconic Los Angeles experiences is a stroll up and down Venice Beach. If you have time, stop for a reading of your palm, or find out what your future holds with a tarot card reading.

If you have the fortune of 24 hours in town, you have time to make it into downtown Los Angeles, or out to exclusive Malibu. You cannot skip the opulence of Malibu Wines, which offers outdoor tastings, picnic tables and live music.

For those with two or more days in the city, make sure to head to Hollywood, but don’t do it as the tourists do; get a clear look at the sign, and a great photo while you’re at it, from rooftop restaurant Mama’s Shelter, set between Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards. Also venture into the Santa Monica Mountains and check out Los Feliz and Griffith Observatory — an ideal place to spot planes departing the City of Angels, as you soon will be.
