INTREPID has released new trekking itineraries for 2020 prompted by strong demand for trips beyond the usual trekking routes.
“Iconic treks like Everest Base Camp and the Inca Trail will always be popular and with good reason,” Intrepid Travel Managing Director APAC Sarah Clark explained.
“But, we want to encourage travellers to consider some of the world’s amazing, but undertouristed places, where they can challenge themselves and experience the achievement of a trek in some off-the-grid destinations.”
“From hiking 110km through the Caucasus mountain range in Armenia, trekking through the jungle in Guatemala or summiting Ras Dashen, Ethiopia’s highest peak, this is adventure at its best — positively impacting people and the planet,” Clark added.
In Armenia, the new range includes a 10-day exploration of the mountain ranges on the Transcaucasian Trail. Trekkers will discover the natural rocky canyons and dramatic gorges in the Vayots Dzor province during an 110km trek, take a walking tour of Yerevan and discover the architectural beauty of the UNESCO-listed Noravank Monastery. Prices start from $1,796 per person twin share departing May 2020.
Another highlight is the eight-day El Mirador trek in Guatemala. The Carmelita El Mirador jungle trek ventures through the Mirador-Rio Azul National Park, where travellers can discover some of oldest ancient citadels in Mesoamerica. Travellers will camp beside the sites for uninterrupted access and explore the Maya Biosphere Reserve which includes more than 250 species of birds, 56 species of reptiles and 16 species of fish. Prices start from $1,095 per person twin share departing May 2020.
