JOURNEY Beyond, the operator of iconic Australian rail journeys the Ghan and the Indian Pacific has released details of the off-train excursions available during its new train journey, Great Southern.

The route, which travels between Adelaide and Brisbane will operate 16 times in its inaugural season which begins 6 December and lasts to 27 January 2020. Northbound itineraries last three days, visiting the Grampians, Canberra and the NSW coast and southbound the journey is four days travelling past the Hunter Valley and offering the chance to visit the 12 Apostles.

Travellers on the train trip can choose from a range of excursions to tailor their journey. These includes options such as wine tasting in the Hunter Valley, visiting the 12 Apostles, lunch with a view from Melbourne’s Eureka Skydeck followed by a laneways tour, visits to Canberra’s National War Memorial and Parliament house, exploring the wilderness of the Grampians and beachside dining experiences. For an additional cost, guests can also upgrade excursions.

Fares for the Great Southern journey start from $1,649 for Gold single accommodation, $1,829 per person for Gold Twin and $3,899 per person for Platinum and are inclusive of all food, beverages and excursions.
