JOEL Katz, Managing Director CLIA Australasia

Cruise360 #NextGeneration

CLIA’s Cruise360 Australasia conference is set to tackle the future evolution of the cruise industry this month, looking at the approaching wave of new cruisers and the latest international cruising concepts under the theme #NextGeneration.

The annual event is the largest dedicated cruise industry conference in the Southern Hemisphere and this year promises a packed line-up of international speakers and local experts, each offering insight into new developments in the world cruise market.

To be held in Sydney on August 30, its highlights will include an address by CLIA’s Global Chair Adam Goldstein, the Vice Chairman of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Adam is one of the giants of the international cruise industry and has been a key figure at Royal Caribbean for more than 30 years, so his address at Cruise360 will be a fantastic opportunity to hear what’s happening at the global level.

Another highlight will be an address from cruising newcomer Virgin Voyages, whose President & CEO Tom McAlpin will explain how the line has prepared for the “epic sea change” it sees coming in the cruise industry. This will be the first time the Australian and New Zealand travel industries will have had an opportunity to hear from the new brand, which will debut its first ship Scarlet Lady in coming months.

Also taking the stage will be Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection President & CEO Ellen Bettridge, giving insight into emerging markets and new cruise concepts. Ellen will help focus our attention on the rising generation of young travellers who are entering the market, and how they are redefining the way we plan, shop, buy and experience travel.

One of the key topics being addressed this year will be the worldwide revolution underway in shore excursions. A panel discussion on “Reimagining Shorex” will provide insight into how cruise passengers are increasingly looking for experience-led options and demanding more immersive shore excursions. Among the panelists will be Robert Morgenstern, the Senior Vice-President of Port Operations and Shore Excursions for the Holland America Group; expedition specialist Aaron Russ, the General Manager of CLIA Executive Partner Wild Earth Travel; and Debbie Summers, Chairman of the New Zealand Cruise Association and Executive Director of IDNZ.

Another great opportunity at Cruise360 Australasia will the dedicated Executive Partner Product and Destination Showcase on the day before the conference, allowing agent members to find out more about the additional products and services that can be offered with a cruise.

There will also be an exclusive ship inspection aboard Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess, giving agents from across Australia and New Zealand a chance to experience the line’s product first-hand.
